Aim and State of the ArtAim and State of the Art
MEDICAL SOCIETY FOR THE USE OF OZONE IN PREVENTION AND THERAPY / European Cooperation of Medical Ozone Societies EUROCOOP The Society was founded as "Medical Ozone Society" in 1972 with the aim to coordinate basic aspects, activate research, and lead ozone therapy to become generally accepted. Since 1993 it has been renamed the Medical Society for Ozone application in Prevention and Therapy Ozone therapy understands itself to be a genuine method in complementary medicine which, in spite of all criticisms, has been classified as valid in a research context and worth supporting financially. We fully accept the discussions held by classical medicine and the criticisms coming from it at present, which are heated and often controversially presented, and have made the best use of them to improve our basic research as far as possible, thus eliminating treatment methods presenting possible complications such as the intravascular application of ozone gas mixtures in solution or infusions under pressure, replacing them by low-risk application techniques. Guidelines on hygienic procedures in extracorporeal blood treatment with ozone have been drawn up and hygiene sets developed which guarantee the highest possible degree of protection against infections when applying medical ozone therapy. Although no placebo-controlled double blind studies have been carried out as yet, we do have a large number of smaller clinical studies providing us with greater depth and definitely widening the basis of our scientific research in this field; in fact, they help to concretise indications and application forms in medical ozone therapy, thus also determining their value and position. With this as a foundation, and with the help of continuous concentration measurements as found in modern medical ozone generators, we are thus greatly helped in our efforts to standardize ozone dosages, concentrations and application forms. Such information we are constantly updating in our recommendations to specialists in the field. Ozone therapy - the present state of the art With the growth of basic research, and especially since knowledge about the effects of ozone on immunocompetent cells (Bocci), ozone therapy is more and more starting to free itself from empiricism and become a scientifically founded form of therapy. European Cooperation of Medical Ozone Societies EUROCOOP EUROCOOP Its aim will be to standardize ozone therapy to the greatest possible extent by developing a series of recommended O3 concentrations and providing uniform dosage guidelines. The European Cooperation group is not considered to be a society of its own, its board will merely consist of the board members of all member societies together. The structure, objectives and fields of activity of each national society will remain exactly as before. We intend to conduct a European Congress, with seminars and workshops, every second year, all held in the English language. One of the national societies in turn will be responsible for organizing these. You will find the currently held training and development sessions, courses, seminars and congresses under the heading „Seminars, Workshops, Congresses”; these are either being held by one of our societies, or consist of events in which we are participating with an ozone seminar. Every member society is accessible under its own website, which provides information on the organisation and its board, as well as objectives and plans, in addition to other sources of information on the application of medical ozone. At present (04/11), the following 9 Ozone Societies are members of the EUROCOOP: The Austrian Mutual Interest Association of Ozone/Oxygen Therapists, „Interessengemeinschaft der Ozon-Sauerstofftherapeuten“, http://members.e-media.at:80/Ozontherapie/ the Swiss Medical Society for Ozone and German „Medical Society for Ozone Application in Prevention and Therapy“, „Ärztliche Gesellschaft für Ozonanwendung in Prävention und Therapie“ www.ozongesellschaft.de In 2006 two associations joined us: the Egyptian Ozone Association starting with the first congress in Cairo in February 2006: www.egycalendar.com and the Turkish MODER Ozone Association has organized its 1st International Medical Ozone Congress in Istanbul in June 2006. www.ozon.com.tr The “Japanese Research Association for Medical and Hygienic Use of Ozone” JRAMHUO, e-mail: nakamuro@pharm.setsunan.ac.jp (2010) The “Indonesian Medical Society for Ozone Therapy” e-mail contact (office): sseminau@pacific.net.id (2011) The Spanisch Society: ACEOOT „Asociación Científica Espanola de Aplicación de Oxígeno-Ozono Terapia“ www.aceoot.org (2011) The Romanian Ozone Society has also applied for membership and the certificate is in preparation CD´s from EUROCOOP Congresses available: 1. CD from our first European Congress in Munich 2003
„Ärztliche Gesellschaft für Ozonanwendung in Prävention und Therapie“ President in charge: Prof. Dr. Ziad Fahmy, Bad Kreuznach
State of knowledge and areas of research in ozone therapy: Medical ozone, a mixture of pure ozone and pure oxygen (0,05% - max. 5%),
The activation of immunocompetent cells results in the physiological release of cytokins (interferones, interleukins)
(increase in ATP and 2,3-DPG-Anstieg) thanks to a reduction in Hb-O2-affinity, this facilitates the transfer of transported oxygen to the tissue
(SOD, catalase, glutathion peroxidase and reductase...) are induced and activated, thus increasing the organism´s antioxidative capacity.
